Our Elders’ Doctrinal Commitments
In addition to the Baptist Faith and Message (2000), which serves as our foundational statement of faith through our affiliation with the Canadian National Baptist Convention (CNBC), the elders of CityLight Church annually affirm and commit to teach in alignment with the following historic and theological documents:
The 1689 Second London Baptist Confession of Faith
Limited exceptions regarding wording may be held by elders in paragraphs 7.3, 22.7, 22.8, 24.2, and 26.4.
The Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy
The Ligonier Statement on Christology
The Nashville Statement on Biblical Sexuality
The Danvers Statement on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood
The Canons of Dort
Our elders take exception to the wording of Article 17. Instead, they affirm and commit to teach this issue in accordance with the 1689 Second London Baptist Confession of Faith, 10.3.
The Five Solas of the Reformation
The Historic Creeds of the Christian Church:
- The Apostles’ Creed
- The Nicene Creed
- The Chalcedonian Definition
These confessions and statements serve as faithful expressions of biblical truth and are used to train, guide, and equip our church for gospel-centered faith and practice. The elders of the church must annually affirm their belief in and commitment to teach in accordance with the doctrinal positions contained within these creeds and confessions.
